Purpose, Outcomes, Process

Purpose: We believe that healthy communities are built on mutual trust and understanding between community members and medical professionals. As we navigate a system that prioritizes profits over patients, we seek to actively engage in community building in order to more closely align our personal values with our daily work.

-> convene health professionals to create mutual aid opportunities

-> actively engage in community building

-> organize to prioritize patients over profit

Expected Outcomes: We hope to learn from and gain a better understanding of the needs of our community. We believe that, together, we can identify opportunities to increase health equity in Long Beach by building collective power with community members and leaders. We seek to elevate the voices of community members within our healthcare system, especially those from marginalized groups.

Process: Regular pop-up events organized around community-selected healthcare topics provide us with some of the opportunities we lack in our daily work. These include time to listen to our community members, space to safely learn, reflect, and share knowledge and resources, and the freedom to prioritize our community over the profit motives baked into our larger healthcare system.
